Royal Air Force 100th Anniversary Flypast

10th July 2018

In 2018, the Royal Air Force celebrated their 100th Anniversary & to

commemorate this fact 100 plus aircraft would fly, in formation, over Buckingham Palace.

This flypast, was to be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see so many aircraft in the air

together at one time. The weather, fortunately, was good & at around 12.40PM

the first of the massive formation of aircraft arrived over my position.

The formation was headed by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with their Douglas DC-3/C-47 Dakota

& was followed by the Avro Lancaster togther with 3 Spitfires & two Hurricanes from the flight.

I was very fortunate that the route taken by the Flypast passed almost directly over where my

father lives so I pretty much had my own air display on the doorstep! :-)

The most memorable part of the flypast must be seeing 23 Eurofighter Typhoons in formation,

22 of these forming the '100' to symbolise the 100 years of the RAF. The 23rd Typhoon was the camera

ship, which left the formation shortly after it passed overhead.
