The Gnat Display Team at North Weald Airfield 21/02/14
Page 1 of 2
On 21st February 2014, after a "Heads Up", I made my way to North Weald Airfield in Essex.
I'd been informed that the Gnat Display Team with their 3 Folland Gnat T.1's were outside
their hangar & were being made ready to go flying.
Unfortunately I missed the flight of the Ex-Yellowjacks Gnat XR992 but as I arrived
XR538, the Red & White Gnat, was being made ready for a couple of flights, the last time
it would fly before going in for winter maintenance. The other Gnat, XS111, was also sitting
outside its hangar & looked absolutely immaculate in its new paint scheme.
It turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with XR538 going up twice
& also testing the smoke generators on its second flight. Also and as an added
bonus, there were some lovely blue skies!!
I'd like to thank everyone involved with the Gnat Display Team for their terrific hospitality.
