RAF Mildenhall News
Jan 3rd, 2006 at 3:57pm

Following on from rumours of Marshall Aerospace being interested in moving to Mildenhall local press carried a piece over the Holiday with the following info:-
Marshalls have commisioned a feasability study over relocating from Cambridge to either RAF Mildenhall or RAF Wyton. The study is expected to take 6 months.
The East of England Press Office for the MOD has confirmed that the study is taking place and will look at commercial, operational and environmental issues. The key question for us as enthusiasts and the study is whether Marshalls could operate alongside USAFE or if Mildenhall could only be used if it closed as an airbase. Interestingly a local planning officer has said it was possible to extend the runway and bring in extra land to cater for Marshalls. Why it would be neccesary to extend what is already one of the largest runways in the UK I am not sure - I suspect it may be a reference to new taxiways to enable any Marshall activity to be accessed seperately from USAFE operations.
Given the MODs involvement in the Study, the interest by USAFE in moving further into Eastern Europe, the Governments plans for the M11 Corridor and not least the keeness of Cambridge City Council to get hold of the land occupied by Marshalls at Cambridge Airport - this matter has clearly moved from the Aviation Enthusiasts Rumour Board to one which the real movers and shakers have taken over.

There are printed plans waiting to be submitted for planning permission for land from the runway 11 threshold going north towards Littleport through the Golf range/course. The plans include the building of new hangars etc. This may not ever happen of course, but the study is being made! There are no plans for any development south of the main runway. Hope this helps?  Undecided
