F-15C Engine Fails; Pilot Safe
Dec 19th, 2005 at 11:15am

By Bruce Rolfsen Times staff writer

An F-15C Eagle suffered an engine failure Tuesday while taking off from RAF  Lakenheath, England, the Air Force reported. The accident happened at 11:45 a.m. as the pilot accelerated the twin engines into maximum afterburner. As the engines' power increased, the right engine stalled, the report said.
The 48th Fighter Wing pilot kept control of the twin-engine jet and wasn't injured. Air Force officials did not provide the name of the pilot. An inspection of the right engine found extensive damage that will likely exceed more than $1 million in losses, the Air Force report said. A safety investigation is under way.
