Title: Greece Return in Full Force
Post by Roger Whitcomb on Feb 18th, 2016 at 1:22pm
Greece's Hellenic Air Force is planning to attend this summer's Royal International Air Tattoo with its biggest contingent of aircraft in more than a decade.

In a strong demonstration of support for the Air Tattoo, Greece is sending three aircraft and taking part in both the flying and static display of the show.

Demo Team Zeus, with the Lockheed Martin F-16C Block 52+ Fighting Falcon, are making a return visit to perform in the flying display after taking home the trophy for best liveried aircraft during the 2015 Air Tattoo. The air arm will also send a pair of rare McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantoms. Greece is one of just two countries in Europe still flying the distinctive 1960s-era fighter jet.

The aircraft form a strong contingent the size of which hasn't been seen since the 1998 show when the air force sent three aircraft for static display.

The Hellenic Air Force has for many years been a strong supporter of the Air Tattoo. In 2014 it sent a pair of Vought A-7 Corsair fighter bombers, the type's last ever appearance outside Greece as the fleet was retired later that year, while 2015 heralded the debut of a Greek aircraft in the flying display.

The aircraft join the Patrouille Suisse and F-35s from the USAF and US Marine Corps on the participation list for the 2016 Air Tattoo.
