We have been informed that a senior delegation from the Royal Thai Air Force will be attending the Air Tattoo in July and that the viability of sending aircraft to the airshow is currently being assessed.

Whilst we traditionally await official confirmation from an air arm about aircraft participation before publicly announcing it with a 'green light' we are confident enough, from the conversations we have had with the Red Arrows and the wider RAF, to confirm that the team will be taking part in RIAT 2014! Detailed discussions are now taking place to make the most of the Red's participation throughout their stay with us including unique aerial set pieces and unrivalled access on the ground. Details, once finalised, will be announced over the coming months.

We have received a communication from Sedat Yalin Ahbab, former SOLOTURK demo pilot with the Turkish F-16 Demo Team who said that having helped establish the team three years ago, it was time to hand over to a 'younger generation'. His successor as SOLOTURK demo pilot is Capt Yusuf Kurt. It would appear that from now on, Sedat will be flying with Turkish Airlines so, for all of you flying off for a holiday in the Bosphorus next summer - hang on to your hats! We thank him and wish him every success in the future.

Tunisia has said operational commitments mean that it will not be in a position to participate in RIAT 2014.

It's not just the Red Arrows who'll be celebrating a special anniversary at the Air Tattoo this summer. The Swiss Air Force will have plenty to cheer about too! Not only is 2014 the 50th anniversary of the Patrouille Suisse aerobatic display team but it is also the 100th anniversary of the Swiss Air Force and the 25th anniversary of the Swiss PC-7 Team, winner of the Air Tattoo's King Hussein Memorial Sword last year for Best Flying Demonstration. Despite what will undoubtedly be a busy year for the Swiss, they have confirmed the Patrouille Suisse, an F/A-18 Hornet and a Super Puma helicopter for RIAT 2014's flying display.
The Spanish Navy has stated that it was unable to send any aircraft to RIAT 2014.
In addition to sending a senior delegation to the Air Tattoo in July, the Algerian Air Force has confirmed it will be sending a C-130 for static display. The last time the aircraft attended was in 2009 when Algeria became the 51st nation to take part in the Air Tattoo since 1971. We are delighted to welcome them back.
The Air Tattoo offers its congratulations to Col Brian T Kelly, formerly Commander of the 501st Combat Support Wing, USAF, based at RAF Alconbury on his nomination for appointment to the rank of Brigadier General. RAF Fairford is operated by the 420th Air Base Squadron, part of the 422nd Air Base Group. Both the 420th ABS and 422nd ABG come under the 501st CSW and during his time in charge, Col Kelly proved a great supporter of the Air Tattoo. We wish him well in his new role. He is currently serving as the director of manpower, personnel and services, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

The German Armed Forces have been in touch to say that a decision on German military aircraft participating at the Air Tattoo will be taken in the spring.
We have opened up discussions with the Finnish Air Force with a view to it participating in RIAT 2014.
The Spanish Air Force has acknowledged our invitation to participate in RIAT 2014 and said it would respond once a schedule of activities has been finalised 'in early 2014'.
The Colombian Air Force is considering participating in RIAT 2014. Whilst this is still at a very early stage, it is nonetheless promising, particularly when considering their eye-catching RIAT debut in 2012 when they sent a C-130H Hercules, beautifully decorated in the national colours of yellow, blue and red, and featuring a sea eagle design. Then, the aircraft flew in from Bogota via Lajes in the Azores, carrying a new basic trainer, the T-90 Calima, on board.
The Italian Air Force has been in contact to say it hopes to be able to take part in RIAT 2014 and that it is currently looking at how best to achieve this.
The Indonesian Air Force, whilst recognising the international importance of the Air Tattoo, said it was unable to participate in RIAT 2014. However, it did ask to be kept informed of future Air Tattoos.

The Royal Brunei Air Force, the German Air Force and the German Army have confirmed they plan to send senior delegations to attend this summer's Air Tattoo.
Our friends and long-time supporters, the Royal Jordanian Falcons aerobatic display team have confirmed that they will be participating in RIAT 2014.
In a letter confirming they plan to send an EC-135 training helicopter to RIAT 2014, the German Army described the Air Tattoo as "one of the greatest and most important events of its kind".
NATO's Heavy Airlift Wing has said it is unable to send a C-17 to participate in RIAT 2014 as a result of its aircraft undergoing heavy maintenance during the next two years. "Our crews will be flying around the clock to execute missions for our 12 participating nations. As a result, aircraft availability will be limited," said the letter.

We have received a letter from a senior US Navy representative to say the US Navy is currently looking at the feasibility of sending a US naval aircraft to RIAT 2014.

Confirmation has been received that the Royal Netherlands Air Force intends to send a senior delegation to RIAT 2014 as well as "contribute substantially to the static and flying display". Great news. We look forward to receiving details in due course.

The Saudi Hawks display Team have written to express their disappointment that as RIAT 2014 falls within the religious festival of Ramadan, they are unable to attend.

The US Military's Pacific Air Forces based in Hawaii, said there were no aircraft available to send to RIAT 2014. However, they added that they "appreciated [RIAT's] hard work, dedication and endless support to the RAF and the US-UK alliance".

The Royal Norwegian Air Force has confirmed that it plans to send a C-130J Super Hercules for static display at this summer's Air Tattoo. The Lockheed Martin C-130J can fly further, faster, with more payload and higher reliability than the vintage C-130Hs the nation had been operating. Norway took delivery of their upgraded airlifters between 2008 and 2010. Norway last sent one of its C-130Js to RAF Fairford in 2012.

The Chilean Navy has written to say that it will be sending a representative to this summer's Air Tattoo. However, they regretted they were unable to send an aircraft to participate.

Representatives from the Red Arrows attended a meeting at Air Tattoo HQ recently to discuss plans to celebrate their 50th display season at RIAT in July. Further meetings have been scheduled at RAF Scampton over the coming months. RAFAT said they hoped to be at RAF Fairford in June to support the Air Tattoo's launch. Details to follow.

We have received a letter from the Finnish Army Helicopter Battalion to say that unfortunately they are unable to attend this year. However, they said they very much enjoyed taking part in 2013 and hoped to be able to return some time in the future.

We look forward to welcoming members of the Friends of the Royal International Air Tattoo (FRIAT) to our FRIAT Forum held at Air Tattoo HQ in Fairford. The event not only allows us to hear feedback on the 2013 airshow, first-hand, but also gives us the opportunity to outline some of our plans for July. Many members of the Air Tattoo team will be present to answer questions and discuss various topics of interest.

As part of celebrations marking their 50th anniversary, the Patrouille Suisse aerobatic display team will include a mixed formation flypast with an example of their former mount, the Hunter Mk58 in their display routine at RIAT 2014. The Swiss display team flew Hunters from their formation in 1964 up until 1994, after which they switched to the Northrop F-5E Tiger II. The flypast will be the first time the Patrouille Suisse has flown in formation with a Swiss Hunter at a UK airshow.

NATO's Airborne Early Warning and Control Force, based in Germany, has confirmed that it plans to send a NATO E-3A Sentry for static display. The aircraft, a modified Boeing 707 with a large mushroom-shaped radar dome on its fuselage, provides NATO with crucial battlefield intelligence. The NATO E-3A Sentry, based at Geilenkirchen, is an airborne warning and control system (AWACS), which normally operates at an altitude of 30,000ft. When established at this altitude, a single E-3A can continuously survey the airspace within a radius of more than 400km of the aircraft and, using digital data links, exchange information with ground and sea-based commanders. The aircraft last appeared at the Air Tattoo in 2012.

Both the Brazilian Air Force and the Brazilian Navy have written to say they will not be able to participate in the Royal
International Air Tattoo this year, due to the FIFA World Cup 2014.

Our flying display was given a boost this week when the RAF confirmed it would be sending the Typhoon Display Team, the Tucano Display Team and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF). The Red Arrows have already been confirmed. The Tucano, Typhoon and Red Arrows will display on all three public days, the BBMF, comprising the Lancaster, Hurricane, Spitfire and Dakota, will appear on the Saturday and Sunday.

In a letter stating stated that it is unable to send aircraft to support RIAT 2014, the US Army Europe (USAREUR) said it recognised the powerful part the Air Tattoo plays "when engaging with a critically-important international audience".

A senior military representative from the Royal Danish Air Force has accepted an invitation to attend RIAT 2014.

Boeing will be displaying its multi-role F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter on the Saturday and Sunday of the Royal International Air Tattoo 2014. Company test pilots will fly an example of the combat-proven jet leased from its main operator, the United States Navy. A multiple flying display award-winner on previous Air Tattoo outings, the Super Hornet is sure again to star this year.

Swiss chronograph manufacturer Breitling, a long-time supporter of the Royal International Air Tattoo, will be providing two display teams at the show in 2014. The Breitling Jet Team displays seven Aero L-39C Albatros jet trainers, while the locally-based Breitling Wingwalkers, flying four Boeing Stearman biplanes, perform a breath-taking sequence of acrobatic manoeuvres with the Wingwalkers strapped to the top wings of the team's beautiful biplanes. Both teams, regular supporters of the Air Tattoo, have recently promoted the Breitling brand in places as far afield as China and Japan.

In a letter sent to us this week, a senior representative from the Italian Navy stated: "Although I consider this important event as one of the most relevant aviation gatherings in the world, I am afraid operational constraints do not allow us to commit any crew or aircraft. I wish you the best success on this remarkable event."

The Air Tattoo's parent company, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust Enterprises, has appointed Andy Armstrong to succeed Tim Prince as Chief Executive following the 2014 airshow in July. Click here for more details.

We are aware of media reports claiming that the US Defense Department is "poised to approve the first trans-Atlantic flight of Lockheed Martin Corp's F-35" and for it to take part in this summer's Air Tattoo. Whilst we would welcome the participation of such a significant aircraft at July's airshow we are unable to comment further at this stage.

A senior military representative from the Georgian Armed Forces has accepted an invitation to attend this summer's Air Tattoo.

A first-time British airshow visitor at the Royal International Air Tattoo 2014 will be a C-27J Spartan twin-turboprop transport from the Lithuanian Air Force. It is one of three such aircraft operated by Lithuania, which accepted its first example of the Alenia Aermacchi-built airlifter - displayed often at RIAT by the Italian Air Force - in December 2006. The air arm of the Baltic state last attended the Air Tattoo in 2005, when it sent a Mil Mi-8 helicopter.

The Armed Forces of Malta has written to say that regrettably they are unable to attend RIAT 2014. "The AFM possesses a very small fleet of aircraft that are tasked to perform maritime patrolling and SAR tasks around the clock." However, the letter went on to say that the AFM hopes that sometime in the future it would be able to participate in this "prestigious event".

We have received a letter from the Portuguese Air Force stating that operational commitments mean they are unable to take part in this summer's Air Tattoo.

We are aware that the Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16 Demo Team has included the Air Tattoo on its calendar for 2014. We shall let you know if and when we receive official confirmation.

Five flying items for the Royal International Air Tattoo 2014 have been confirmed by the Italian Air Force. The spectacular Frecce Tricolori aerobatic team, flying 10 Aermacchi AT-339A jet trainers, will join the Red Arrows' 50th display season celebrations, while there will also be solo displays from an Alenia Aermacchi AMX, Alenia C-27J Spartan, Eurofighter Typhoon and Panavia Tornado from the air force's Reparto Sperimentale Volo flight test centre.

The Finnish Air Force has contacted us to say: "Much as we would like to display our equipment and the skills of our pilots in front of the audience in the famed Royal International Air Tattoo, the current high demands to which our personnel is subjected unfortunately preclude our participation this time."

Two F-16 MLUs from 338 Skvadron at Ørland will be joining the Royal International Air Tattoo's celebration of the Fighting Falcon's 40th anniversary on static display. Not only is Norway one of the longest-standing F-16 operators, but it was also one of the first countries to throw its weight behind the Air Tattoo when it was founded at North Weald in 1971. Very appropriate, therefore, to see the Norwegians back for Tim Prince's last show in charge.

The UK's tri-service Joint Helicopter Command is to send seven helicopters to RIAT 2014. Taking part in the flying display will be the ever-spectacular RAF Chinook, along with an Army Air Corps Apache and Lynx AH7. The static display is due to include a Puma and Merlin from the RAF, plus an increasingly seldom-seen Gazelle and rare Bell 212 from the AAC.

We are aware of the tweet made by the Swedish Air Force 'Gripen Solo Display' stating 'Anyone else heading for RIAT Airshow? I am.' Well, all we can say at this stage is that he won't be if he doesn't secure his admission ticket in advance! :0)

We have received notification that a senior military delegation from the US Marine Corps will be among the guests attending this summer's Air Tattoo.

Aviation history will be made in the UK this summer when, in a major airshow 'first', the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, the Joint Strike Fighter, makes its much-anticipated European debut.
This hugely important multi-role combat aircraft, which has never before been seen outside of the US, will display at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford on July 11-13.

Three examples of the F-35B, the short take-off/vertical landing version of the Lightning II optimized for operation from austere bases and smaller ships, will be based at RAF Fairford: two from the US Marine Corps and one destined for the UK. The flying displays on all three days of the airshow, will see participation by one aircraft.

The aircraft's appearance will allow a whole new audience to see at close quarters this highly advanced multi-role platform, which, in F-35B form, will demonstrate the 'hover' capability required for operation from, for example, Britain's forthcoming new aircraft carriers.

Its appearance at RAF Fairford in July will be the latest in a long list of legendary military aircraft that have made their UK debut at the Air Tattoo. These have included the F-14 Tomcat in 1976, the MiG-23 in 1991, the Typhoon in 1995 and the V-22 Osprey in 2006.

Air Tattoo Chief Executive Designate, Andy Armstrong said: "Not only will people witness aviation history being made at the Air Tattoo this summer but they will also see a breath-taking demonstration of the future of combat aviation. Those people who, like me, enjoyed seeing the legendary Harrier display its hovering capabilities in the past will relish the opportunity to see its state-of-the-art successor."

In the words of Lockheed Martin, the F-35B combines for the first time 'the most lethal fighter characteristics: supersonic speed, radar-evading stealth, extreme agility and short take-off/vertical landing capability.'

The stealthy Lightning II is a vital aircraft for the air arms of the nine countries who have, thus far, signed up to become part of the programme: apart from the US and UK, also involved are Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and Turkey.

The type is rapidly entering service with the US Air Force in CTOL (conventional take-off and landing) F-35A guise, and with the US Marine Corps in F-35B form. The UK plans to procure 138 F-35Bs for joint operation by the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy, and has begun pilot and maintainer training on the aircraft at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. The F-35 will, in future, become a common sight in our skies - but it will perform its first international display at this summer's Air Tattoo.

Much charisma will be added to the array of combat aircraft on show at RIAT 2014 by two Hellenic Air Force A-7 Corsair IIs in the static park. Two examples of the Corsair II are due to be provided by 336 Mira at Araxos. It will be the first visit by Greek Corsairs to the event since 2007. These veteran strike jets, now the sole A-7s in military use, are reportedly due for retirement later this year.

The latest national aerobatic team to join celebrations at RIAT 2014 of the Red Arrows' 50th display season is the French Air Force's Patrouille de France. Owing to other commitments, the team, with its eight Alpha Jets, will be appearing on the Friday and Saturday of the Air Tattoo only. Last year, the Reds helped mark the French team's own 60th anniversary at Salon de Provence in May 2013.

The Royal Aeronautical Society will exhibit at RIAT 2014 a Rans S6 ES Coyote light aircraft to showcase its Schools Build-a-Plane Challenge, an initiative in which young people in secondary schools have the chance to build from a kit a light aircraft - and, hopefully, fly in the finished product. Several schools around the country are participating, and have flown the completed Rans aircraft.

Continuing a very long run of Air Tattoo appearances, No 3 Squadron of the Royal Jordanian Air Force will be sending a C-130H Hercules to RIAT 2014. Part of the RJAF's Air Lift Wing and stationed at King Abdullah Air Base in the capital city Amman, No 3 Squadron operates the C295 alongside its Hercules fleet, which currently numbers seven aircraft. If previous years are anything to go by, expect the Jordanians to put up an eye-catching display on their country near the Hercules.

Displayed statically in the Air Tattoo's Techno Zone will be a light helicopter not previously seen at RIAT, the attractive Guimbal Cabri G2 operated by Leicester-based Helicentre Aviation. The company uses the French-designed type for helicopter pilot training and flight experiences.

The history of the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, will be reflected in the RIAT 2014 static display by the presence of two Gnat T1s owned by the Heritage Aircraft Trust and operated by the Gnat Display Team. The aircraft will be in the colours of the Yellowjacks, the Red Arrows' forerunner, and the Reds themselves. Naturally, the Gnats are set to form part of celebrations marking the Red Arrows' 50th display season, having been the first aircraft type used by the team.

Two beautiful classic aircraft will help form an appropriate aeronautical backdrop to RIAT's popular Vintage Village, the area dedicated to conjuring up memories of yesteryear. The highly polished, Art Deco-style lines of a Spartan 7W Executive, one of two owned by Nigel Pickard, will contrast with the biplane elegance of Nigel Finlayson and David Peters' Waco UPF-7. Both aircraft are based at Little Gransden in Cambridgeshire.

Two aircraft will be provided by the Spanish Air Force for the RIAT 2014 static park. An EF-18M or BM Hornet is coming from Ala 15 at Zaragoza - the first time a Spanish Hornet has attended the show since 2009 - while a C295 transport will hail from Ala 35 at Getafe.

The Austrian Air Force contributed a Sikorsky S-65 helicopter to the very first Air Tattoo in 1971, so it is fitting that Tim Prince's last show as director of the Royal International Air Tattoo should welcome the air arm once again, with a solo display by a Saab 105ÖE jet trainer. This item was last seen at RIAT in 2011. It is provided by the Düsentrainerstaffel (Jet Trainer Squadron) at Linz. The sight of the Austrian Saab display will be nostalgic for those who recall the Karo As display team that appeared at several Air Tattoos in the 1970s and '80s.

An impressive contingent of aircraft is being contributed to RIAT 2014 by the German armed forces. The German Air Force will send a Eurofighter EF2000, Tornado, C-160D Transall and Airbus A310 MRTT, and the German Navy a P-3C Orion, Dornier 228LM, Sea King Mk41A and Sea Lynx Mk88A. Details of the units from which the aircraft are coming can be found in the participation list. These add to the German Army EC135 already confirmed.

We are pleased to confirm the addition to the RIAT 2014 participation list of several aircraft from the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm. A Merlin anti-submarine helicopter from 824 Naval Air Squadron will take part in the flying display, with another example of this versatile machine in the static park; also shown statically will be a King Air 350ER 'Avenger' observer trainer from 750 NAS, a Sea King HU5 search and rescue helicopter from 771 NAS, and a Lynx maritime helicopter.

The Romanian Air Force has confirmed that it will be sending a senior delegation to this summer's Air Tattoo. We have been informed that we will be contacted separately with regards to aircraft participation.

Added to the line-up of fast jets flying at RIAT 2014 will be the JAS 39C Gripen of the Swedish Air Force. Providing the display aircraft will be the F 7 wing at Såtenäs, the unit that carries out Gripen pilot conversion training for all the type's operators including its home nation.

The Belgian Air Component will participate at RIAT 2014 with the F-16 Solo Demonstration Team from 350 Squadron at Florennes plus one static C-130H Hercules from 20 Squadron at Brussels-Melsbroek.

The latest addition to RIAT 2014's F-16 40th anniversary celebration is an example from the Royal Danish Air Force's Fighter Wing Skrydstrup in the static display. Meanwhile, Denmark will also provide a CL604 Challenger VIP transport and surveillance aircraft operated by Eskadrille 721 at Aalborg, also for the Air Tattoo static park.

A Squirrel HT1 training helicopter from the Central Flying School (Helicopter) Squadron at RAF Shawbury will join the RIAT 2014 static display, adding further to the line-up of British military rotorcraft on show.

After the historic visit to RIAT 2012 by a Japan Air Self-Defense Force Boeing KC-767J tanker/transport, the first time an in-service Japanese military aircraft had ever participated in a European event, just such an aircraft will make a return to the Air Tattoo in 2014. The fleet of four KC-767Js is operated by 404 Hikotai at Komaki. We are delighted to welcome the JASDF back to Fairford. A senior military delegation representing the JASDF will also be present.

A senior military delegation representing the Philippine Air Force has confirmed they will be attending the Air Tattoo.

The world airshow debut of the Textron AirLand Scorpion two-seat tactical jet will be a highlight of the RIAT 2014 static display. The aircraft made its maiden flight in Wichita, Kansas, on December 13 last year and is currently engaged in a successful flight testing programme. Preparations, including some airframe modifications aimed at easing its deployment, are well under way for the Scorpion's inaugural trans-Atlantic trip.

The newly-formed Gazelle Squadron Display Team will be sending two Gazelle helicopters to RIAT 2014 for static display. They are expected to comprise a former RAF Gazelle HT3 trainer and an ex-Army Air Corps AH1 that served in the 1991 Gulf War. Based at Bourne Park in Hampshire, this civilian organisation has a total of eight such helicopters depicting the variety of roles played by the Gazelle in UK service use. It will work up a four-ship display for 2015.

A number of civilian aircraft have been confirmed as attending RIAT 2014 in the static display. On the vintage side will be Carlo Ferrari's Beech G18S from Switzerland, while, at the modern end of the spectrum, Grob will exhibit the new G120TP turboprop trainer. Meanwhile, Swiss pilot Bruno Stocker continues his lengthy support for the Air Tattoo by bringing an Extra EA400 and Socata TB20 Trinidad.

Also now on the participation list for RIAT 2014 are several civilian aircraft that will be visiting the show - for example, transporting VIPs - but which will not be part of either the static or flying displays. Numbered among these are two Piper PA-28 Warriors from the BAE Systems Flying Club, two Gulfstream G550s operated by Lockheed Martin, a Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche, a Cessna 525 CitationJet operated by HTM Jet Service, Marshall Aerospace's Piper PA-23 Aztec and Cessna 550B Citation, and a BAe 146-200 operated by BAE Systems.

Another new US military aircraft taking part in RIAT 2014 will be a Boeing P-8A Poseidon from the US Navy. A single example from test and evaluation squadron VX-1 at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland, will make the type's Air Tattoo debut in the static aircraft park. A number of British crew members, maintaining national maritime patrol experience since retirement of the RAF Nimrod fleet, will be among those on board for the visit.

Visitors to the Air Tattoo on Sunday are set for an extra special treat as they will have the opportunity to see close up a number of interesting aircraft on static display being manoeuvred on the Showground during the afternoon prior to departing for Farnborough. Among these aircraft will be the P-8 Poseidon and the Textron AirLand Scorpion.

As last year, the Estonian Air Force will be providing two aircraft at RIAT 2014 - an Aero L-39C Albatros jet trainer for the flying display, and a veteran Antonov An-2 'Colt' utility biplane for the static park.

Adding further to the Army Air Corps' representation at this summer's Air Tattoo will be a Britten-Norman Defender from 651 Squadron. Stationed at Aldergrove in Belfast, the aircraft is a rarely-seen attendee at a British air display. It will be present in the static park.

The involvement of British military helicopters in RIAT 2014 is already strong, and two more have been added to the static display - a Bell Griffin HT1 from No 60(R) Squadron at RAF Shawbury, and a search and rescue Westland Sea King HAR3 of No 203(R) Squadron at RAF Valley.

The Royal Air Force Centre of Aviation Medicine (RAFCAM) has confirmed that it will send a Hawk T1 for static display as part of RIAT 2014's celebration of the jet trainer's 40th anniversary. RAFCAM has two Hawks, based at MoD Boscombe Down in Wiltshire. They are used as part of its research into the effects of fast jet flying on the human body.
Two further examples of the historic Jet Provost trainer will be joining the RIAT 2014 static park. Regular show attendee Neil McCarthy is set to bring his Newcastle-based Jet Provost T3A, serial XM479, while from North Weald will come a T3 model, formerly serialled XN637.

Against these additions, a small number of cancellations have been notified. The NATO E-3A Sentry, Royal Navy Sea King HU5 and the civilian Guimbal Cabri light helicopter are regrettably no longer able to participate in RIAT 2014.

Returning to RIAT for what promises to be another impressive demonstration of agility from a large aircraft is the Airbus A400M Atlas. The twin-turboprop airlifter will appear in the flying display crewed by test pilots from manufacturer Airbus Defence and Space. Last year, Anglo-German crew Tony Flynn and Karl-Heinz Mai took home the Air Tattoo's Cannestra Trophy for best display by an overseas participant. Tony Flynn is scheduled to join chief test pilot Ed Strongman in making up the display crew this time around.

Making the short hop over from their base at Cotswold Airport will be two classic jets from the Midair Squadron, Canberra PR9 serial XH134 and Hunter T7 serial XL577. Both will be on static display over the Air Tattoo weekend. The Canberra, of course, made its post-restoration debut at RIAT last year.

Peter Vacher's Battle of Britain veteran Hurricane I, R4118, will grace the Air Tattoo static display this year. The aircraft, based at Peter's farm strip near Didcot, is due to be flown in by test pilot Keith Dennison.

Returning to the Air Tattoo static park this year is the Vampire Preservation Group's lovingly-restored Vampire T11, WZ507. This is the sole T11 believed to be flying today, all the other airworthy two-seat Vampires being licence-built (mainly ex-Swiss) examples. It is based at North Weald, and will further augment the small gathering of classic jets attending RIAT 2014 for static display.

We can now confirm that due to an overwhelming response from invited air arms and operators, our flying display on Saturday & Sunday has been extended and will now start at 9.45 and finish at 6.00pm (over 8 hours!). Our Saturday and Sunday flying display has previously been advertised as running from 10am - 5.30pm so please arrive early so as not to miss the first displays!

It will be good to welcome the Portuguese Air Force back to RIAT 2014, and once again with a rare aeroplane - a C295 from Esquadra 502 'Elefantes' at Montijo. It will be displayed in the static park.

We have had great news that the Polish Air Force is sending a second SU22 for the flying display, we have another F16 for the static display from the Royal Danish Air Force and the Swiss Air Force are sending another Super Puma for static display which joins the one we already have in the flying display. This is also the case for the J105Oe from Austrian Air Force as we add a static aircraft to the J105Oe already confirmed as flying.

The UK Met Office 'High Altitude Flight' BAe 146 from the National Centre for Atmospheric Science will be joining us again on static display following a very successful visit in 2012.
