RAF Lakenheath a Day at the Fence
January 25th 2018 Page 1 of 2
My first trip out in 2018. I'd been checking the weather forecast for ages, it had been grey, cold & miserable for weeks,
then, a ray of hope, Thursday 25th January 2018 was forecast as being blue skies & sunshine all day,
so, decision made, I decided to head off early that day to RAF Lakenheath.
I arrived at RAF Lakenheath just after 8.30 AM. There were 7 Boeing F-15C Eagles lined up on last chance.
So, no time for coffee, I headed for the fence. The sun was shining and the sky was blue! :-)
The morning turned out to be entirely the C version of the Eagle from the 493rd Fighter Squadron, 'The Grim Reapers',
then around midday the E's appeared, from the 492nd & 494th Fighter Squadrons, 'Bolars' & 'Madhatters',
in total, around 20 F-15E's took off one after another.
I must admit I can't remember seeing a busier day at the fence in a long time.
The activity turned out to be pretty much non-stop, which was great, it was a tad chilly though, but a real
advantage with this time of the year is the light can be simply gorgeous.
